The Ark fortress, which is the residence of Bukhara khans and emirs, symbolizes power and might in the history of the city. This ancient architectural and archaeological monument of Central Asia is located on an artificial hill 20 meters high and covers an area of 4.2 hectares. The plan of the fortress is a closed polygon; the length of the walls of the citadel is 789 meters. The surviving structures inside the fortress, such as the Throne Hall, the Emir's Prime Minister's Courtyard, the Greetings Courtyard and the Stables Courtyard, bear witness to the historical past of the place.
